Description
HTH Stabiliser Free Chlorine Shock is a high-strength shock treatment for pools, supplied as a twin pack of two 4kg bags for a total of 8kg. Based on calcium hypochlorite, the stabiliser-free formula gives a fast, powerful chlorine dose without adding cyanuric acid (CYA) to the water.
A stabiliser-free shock treatment is recommended where cyanuric acid levels are already sufficient, or where frequent shock dosing risks building up excess stabiliser over time. Since cyanuric acid does not break down and can only be lowered through dilution, avoiding needless stabiliser addition helps keep water balanced and prevents the drop in chlorine effectiveness that high CYA levels can bring about.
The twin pack gives most domestic pools a full season’s worth of shock treatment, and works out better value per kg than single bags. Suited to both residential and smaller commercial pool settings.

Always test pool water before and after shock dosing. Do not allow swimming until chlorine levels return to the recommended range of 1 to 3 ppm. Wear appropriate PPE when handling.

I use this so the stabiliser level does not get too high, alternating with stabilised chlorine, at between 50 and 100g a day. Very effective and I have never had a water quality problem. One thing to watch is that it can push the pH up, so keep some pH minus in stock to stay below 7.4.

For several years I have used this for the regular shock treatment of my fifty cubic metre pool and afterwards it is immaculate. In the evening I remove the slow chlorine blocks, run the cleaner, backwash and rinse the filter, then stop the filtration and sprinkle it over the whole surface at the correct dose and leave it overnight. The next morning I restart filtration and put the slow tablets back.
