Description
OPA is a high-level disinfectant appropriate for immersion disinfection of heat-sensitive instruments and articles, and since solutions under 0.3% are regarded as ineffective, concentration needs checking before use. These Deep Blue OPA test strips cover the 0 to 0.55% range with a clear checkpoint at the vital 0.3% level.
Take out a strip, fully immerse the pad for two to three seconds, shake away the excess, then compare it with the chart after 60 seconds. The result is clear and repeatable.
Deep Blue water testing products are manufactured to a high standard and colour matched for precise, repeatable readings, and our range of test strips is trusted by pool professionals, holiday let operators and dedicated home users right across the UK.
Store tightly capped, away from moisture and light, to protect the remaining strips.
How to Use
- Remove one ortho-phthalaldehyde test strip from the barrel.
- Dip the strip into the solution, keeping the pad completely immersed for 2 to 3 seconds.
- Remove the strip and shake off any excess liquid.
- Compare the test pad against the colour chart after 60 seconds.

Very genuinely useful. It works really well with the phone app, you just take a photo of the strip and the app reads the result and advises what to do to improve things.

Fairly easy to use and reliable. It is similar to the other tests in the range, but I usually double up on the reagent and the test sample to get a more discernible result, especially when testing phosphates at the lower end of the scale. The only thing better and more reliable would be an electronic phosphate meter, but that costs a fair bit more.
Ms Ava Price –
The test kit arrived on time along with my other purchases. This one is tricky because I have no way to check the veracity of the outcome, but it works just as advertised.

Saoirse Reynolds (verified owner) –
Lots of tests. I felt like a scientist using this laboratory quality kit. A typical home kit usually contains only one or two tests, whereas this bottle has no frills but a good number of tests to share with all your neighbours. It looks like something straight out of a lab. They do expire, but there is plenty of time to test through winter and spring. We tested our bottled water, our tap water and our reverse osmosis filter.
Miss Jessica A. Harrison –
An excellent product and easy to use. If you are using it for the first time alongside water treatments, I would run the treatment for a couple of days first, then put the jets on to move it around, switch off after a few seconds and then dip your test in the water. The colour guide is really easy to follow.

A really good starter kit for a new owner. The chlorine takes a little messing about with to work out the quantity to water ratio, as we needed less than the packaging indicated, so there was some trial and error to get the level correct. After the initial dose it has been very easy to check the levels with the strips and then top up. Spot on.

The best I have used. I have tried quite a few traditional phosphate kits and this is by far the easiest to carry out and to read. The larger water sample and the quantity of reagents both help. Good availability and a product I would certainly recommend. Easy to use, with the instructions printed on the side of the container.
Ms Cian McDonald-Holmes –
A really decent pack. I have not used it yet as I have a starter pack to get through first, but it is comprehensive and will keep you going for some time. It keeps the water safe and clean, just remember to test it regularly.

Decent value. With the price of the reagents I was using going up, I tried it instead, and it is much easier to test with as there is no powder to deal with. I tested on three separate occasions and both kits came close to the same results, though the older one gave a slightly more definite answer. It comes down to how hard you chase numbers, and in my opinion this one is better value for money.

Really easy to use and it levelled everything out perfectly, so the water now needs adjusting a lot less often to stay within the ideal range. Very happy with it.

Miss Matthew C. Thomas-Singh (verified owner) –
Just as advertised, they do the job and were easy enough to use. Happy enough with it.
Miss Gary Graham –
This test is so easy and the results come through immediately. The problem I have is that my phosphates are very low, possibly zero, and when you are in the low range it is very difficult to read. I am debating whether to buy another, as I am almost out, and whether to send a sample away for professional testing so I can tell if I have any phosphates at all and then judge the readings on this test better. I am also wondering about a more expensive electronic checker, but I know I would not like the fiddly powder reagents. I only have about two tests left, so time matters and I need to know whether to keep dosing. I should have sent one off sooner, because I do like this test a lot.

Miss Rowan Y. Jones –
Received safely, thank you. It took a bit of time as the shop was waiting for a new batch to arrive, but they kept me informed of the progress throughout. Good. It does the job.
Mr Rahul Gray (verified owner) –
A solid product that does exactly what it says on the packaging, and it is very easy to use.
Dr Daniel Russell –
Perfect for the job. I’ve tried cheaper ones but they were not as accurate as these. It is just costly when a tube only lasts a month.
Dr Louise White –
Buy them from the official seller. They are as cheap as anywhere else and you know they are not fakes. There are a good number of fakes on the marketplaces, so do beware.

Good to have for testing water from a RODI unit. I picked this up at my local shop as I needed something quickly to test the fresh water coming out of my unit. For a colour chart test it works pretty well and was near enough spot on with my digital tester, which read 0.101 while it read between 0.07 and 0.1. My only complaint is that the 15 ml syringe cracked the first time I tried to draw water in, as the plunger seems bigger than the tube. Thankfully I had others on hand so it was not a big deal, but it is something they could look into.

Very easy to use, you just dip a strip and read it off against the chart, and the result comes through in moments.
Mrs Mairi Parker (verified owner) –
The price point is decent and it saves you time taking your water to the shop to be tested. It is sometimes a little difficult to tell which colour on the chart your reading matches, but that is an issue with any test strips I have used.

An excellent purchase, the readings are clear and precise and they still work well in difficult conditions. I would happily recommend these strips.
Mrs Harry Ward –
Better safe than sorry. When you are stripping back sixty odd years of wall coverings in an old house and you find yourself looking at the original paint, it is probably a good idea to check for lead before you go any further. I am really glad I did, and also very glad I checked the mid century bench seat I was planning to sand down and repaint. This little kit was simple to use on both horizontal and vertical surfaces and gave a clear reading. I was not surprised that the wall paint contained lead given the age of the building, but I am very glad I checked the bench as well. It has saved me from sanding lead paint and for that reason I am very thankful I bought it.

A good kit, although I am still looking for one that is not too hard to read. My last one was clearly readable for zero phosphate and sort of clear for some phosphate. I read about this before buying and it is a new, dependable and easy testing method. I tried it on some pretty vintage plates I picked up second hand and two out of three tested positive for lead, so we will not be using them for food any more. The test is very easy indeed, you put one drop of the liquid on the surface you want to test and then shine the included UV light on it, and if it goes green there is lead.
Miss Claire F. McLean (verified owner) –
It works well, but the colour of the reactive pad is slightly confusing to read off at times.

Sajid Reynolds (verified owner) –
As the product was out of stock, after a phone call and with my agreement the supplier sent me an alternative, which does not tell you whether the reading you have taken is correct or not, so you have to rely on your own experience. All the same, the test works fine for me.

Perfect for getting through the early stages with a new setup. It gives adequate testing to be sure that any spikes are spotted and kept under control while it all settles down. Very pleased with the purchase.
V. Doyle (verified owner) –
I had been using another test kit for years, and when I needed to replace some of my supplies I decided to try these strips instead. I love them, they save me so much time and money. I only wish I had tried them sooner. Very pleased with the purchase.

Good communication and prompt delivery from the seller, and I would recommend them.

Hugh M. Hussain (verified owner) –
A great product, so quick and easy to use, and you know your water is safe.
Thomas Cox (verified owner) –
The quick timing allows us to breeze through mandatory high-level disinfection checks without delaying the surgical teams.
Lucy Z. Cole –
Found these fast and so simple to use. Take out a strip, hold it in the water by the marked grip at the top, keep it in place for 60 seconds, then remove it without shaking. Lay it flat next to the chart on the pack to line up the outcome and you are done.
Miss Sophia E. Gupta –
Quick and easy to use, and it gives you a decent rough idea of the state of the water.
Mrs Leah V. Hawkins –
Very convenient and fast to use, and pairing it with a smartphone makes reading the result even easier. Very pleased with the purchase.
Rishi Z. Clarke (verified owner) –
These strips make it very easy to check things, and I check every single time I have been using it. After a while you barely need to compare against the chart, as it is pretty obvious when things are out of balance.

A perfect product. I rely on these strips to keep my water balanced and they are speedy and simple to use every time.
Jai Harrison –
I will certainly be using these for my thesis lab work next week. Thank you for the fast shipping, they arrived sooner than I expected.
G. Holmes (verified owner) –
I have used other strips that are easier to read off, but these do the job and I am satisfied with the product.
Mrs Clare Lawrence –
I much prefer these to the ones I was using before, the reading is far easier to make out and much better all round. Just what I needed.
Dr Farhan Griffiths (verified owner) –
I bought this for convenience and it has done exactly what I wanted. It is easy to use, the result is easy to read and I am very happy with the purchase.
Finlay J. Das (verified owner) –
Easy to use and easy to make out the results, so you know everything is running safely.
Tom Z. Boyle-Green –
It works and does exactly what it is supposed to. Simple to use and it gives an easy to read result, so no complaints at all.
Dr Chloe Smith –
An accurate and easy phosphate test. Good packaging and easy to use. The colour I estimated was between the 0.10 and 0.20 colours with nothing in between, so it seemed to measure 0.15. My digital checker read 0.14. Sometimes the colours can be hard to tell apart, but I felt this was pretty easy for the range I was in. A decent test kit.
Ruby White (verified owner) –
Fast delivery in the middle of Christmas and the pandemic. Great the service.
Mrs Martin G. Fraser –
Thank you really much, it is great. I am never disappointed ordering from this seller and the service is great as well. Thanks again.

Works as described, reliable and easy to use, and I get a clear result every time.
Harvey Hughes –
Easy to use and easy to read, and it does everything I need it to do without the slightest fuss.
Ms Hassan Wilson –
Although I have not used it yet, I have no doubt it will do the job for us, as we have picked up them before and they are very helpful to have.
Ross B. Fisher –
They are excellent for getting some quick and easy results, and I usually follow up any irregularities from the strip test with a liquid test. These seem quite accurate and the results usually agree with the liquid tests, apart from one of the readings, which always seems to come out a little higher. They are so easy to use, just swirl the strip a couple of times and then read the results. Great for a quick weekly check.
Gary E. Wilson –
Very nice and easy to use, you just dip the strip, wait for the colour change and compare it against the chart on the container. Practical for testing out in the field.
Niamh L. Kelly –
The seller shipped a few days after I placed the order, but once it was sent the courier got it to me in a day. Happy enough with it.
Dr Henry Reed –
Dead easy to use, you just dip a strip and read the colour, no fuss at all and the result comes up in a few seconds.
Ms Max Griffiths –
An indispensable product. Chlorine dioxide is a wonderful disinfectant, but if you know the first thing about it you know that its concentration in solution wanes rather rapidly. I keep a little bottle very handy, and the question is always how to know whether it needs replacing. These strips give you an instant answer.
Mr Z. L. Fleming –
The support team were really good and I noticed a difference within a day. The readings were clear and consistent every time I tested.
Graham Reed (verified owner) –
It came in fast and I did the test right away. It was easy and informative. With all the construction that goes on and the age of the pipes around here, it is great to have these test strips to keep on top of our water. I have been affected by bad pipes in the past.
O. Chapman-Robertson (verified owner) –
Well packaged and the item arrived in decent condition. I tried it out and it is easy to use and easy to compare against the colour chart. Recommended.

Benjamin M. Roberts (verified owner) –
Really solid value for money. Very easy to use, with clear results in seconds.

Orla Parker –
Super quick delivery on a repeat order. It arrived in good condition and I highly recommend this seller. Thank you.
Mr Logan I. Palmer –
Handy and easy to use. My grandchildren loved using these strips to test the pH of different liquids around the house as part of an experiment. The writing was not in English, but fortunately they knew what the colours meant.
Mrs Maisie Begum (verified owner) –
Bought these to test my betta tanks and they work great and seem reliable.
Sofia Foster-Richards –
An excellent purchase, the measurements are clear and precise and it stays dependable even on difficult jobs. I will order again.
Harrison Walsh –
It is a shame it doesn’t test for ammonia as well, but it is still a good piece of kit.
Sebastian O’Connor (verified owner) –
An excellent choice with professional performance, clear and reliable measurements and reliable handling. I will definitely order again.
Mr Kevin B. Russell (verified owner) –
Top notch the quality with no faff to get started, and the readings were clear and consistent.
Jack Reilly-Begum –
Testing is simple. I like the way they only have a few things to test for, which keeps it simple. I would recommend them.
Abigail Russell (verified owner) –
A quick and easy way to gauge a critical water quality condition. I love these test strips because they measure perhaps the most deadly element in the hobby in a simple way. My only criticism, and this is on me rather than on they or the shop, is that I find them harder to read now than I did ten years ago. With my eyesight, the subtle differences on the colour chart sometimes give me trouble, usually when trying to tell a straight zero from something around the halfway mark. I am confident that if there was a serious ammonia problem, and anything above zero needs attention, the colour would tell me, as the green gets more intense. Plenty of light and a white backdrop help with reading the results as well.
Dr James O. McLean (verified owner) –
For getting a ballpark figure it is very good value for the money, and it is quick and simple to use.
Ms Priya Armstrong –
The test kit was spot on. Another good purchase of a build quality test kit from this shop.
C. R. Reynolds (verified owner) –
Works as advertised. These little strips are easy to use and the instructions break down three different tests. It tests for pH, chlorine I think, and water hardness, and each one has different colours based on where it should be. The item did take longer than originally quoted to arrive, but all in all I am pleased with my purchase.
Isla Barnes (verified owner) –
Good quality test strips for a reasonable price, easy to use and the results are clear enough to read quickly.
Amir MacDonald (verified owner) –
A great, genuine item. After using other cheap dip strips of poor quality, these are now the only dip test strips we buy. Highly recommended.
Mrs Andrew C. Robertson –
This is a brilliant company to deal with, any questions are answered promptly, nothing is a problem and they are so helpful. Their products are excellent.
Martin Macleod (verified owner) –
It does exactly what it says on the bottle, and it does it without the slightest delay.
Dr Vikram V. Turner –
The shop sent exactly the products I purchased and I am very happy with what I received.
Jayden Gallagher-McCarthy (verified owner) –
It is all right, but I have to ask my wife to judge the shades of colour as she is far more sensitive to them. The average bloke will struggle a bit with it.
Rohan Mitchell-Hunt (verified owner) –
A robust item with professional performance that works well even in tough conditions, and it is excellent value for money.
Miss Amber Khan –
A good test kit which I used to monitor my saltwater cycle. It does the job.

Mr Ahmed Desai –
It lets you know the state of the water and shows you what is needed to keep it at its best. Just what I needed.
Mrs Imogen Patel –
The seller was very responsive and the packaging was great, so the whole order went smoothly from start to finish.
Dr Carter Uddin (verified owner) –
It is perfectly reliable for a quick check and I have compared it against liquid tests. It does fall short on some of the other readings though. For anyone who just wants an easy check it is fine, but for more demanding measurements liquid tests are the only way.
Dr Euan Pearson (verified owner) –
I normally use chemical testing for my results, which can be a little slow and messy, but this is speedy and clean for the same result. Great product.
Ms Ismail Q. Reynolds (verified owner) –
Does what it says and is easy to use, nothing to complain about from me at all.
Ella Gupta (verified owner) –

Miss Abigail Pearson (verified owner) –
I got these and another branded version at the same time, and I much prefer these. They are my go to now.
Mr U. V. Phillips –
I would buy this product again. The ordering service and postage were surprisingly efficient and prompt, and the product works as presented, though it is somewhat difficult to read at lower concentrations. I expected that, as these are a low concentration version of strips that only measure at higher levels.
Iain A. Scott –
I have used these for years by using the dilution method, and they give a reasonable ballpark estimate of the concentration, though not quite to my satisfaction. It would be very useful if there were strips that could read stronger concentrations directly without having to resort to diluting the sample first.
Hamza N. Kaur –
Delivery was genuinely fast and the product was packed carefully. I ordered and it arrived within two days. Very happy overall and I will definitely buy again.
Z. S. Johnstone (verified owner) –
I would buy it again. Great product and it works exactly as described, easy to use and easy to read.
Zoe W. Clarke –
We used these as part of the testing of our final assemblies, to confirm that the right concentration of solution had been run through them to prevent bacterial growth. Happy enough with it.
Mr R. Y. Dhillon –
Very decent service from start to finish, the order arrived promptly and the strips are easy to use.

This is the first time I have used these and they are just so easy. A great item and another quick delivery, thank you.
A. Iqbal (verified owner) –
Extremely easy to use. The item is packaged very sensibly for either laboratory or field use, and the strips could not be simpler to work with.
Dr Fatima Mahmood (verified owner) –
A nice test kit and one of the quickest out there to use. Just to comment on the previous rating, the outcome are meant to be read between 5 and 30 seconds according to the instructions. Always calibrate any test kit with a known sample in solution to confirm its readings. That even applies to very expensive high end kits.
Mrs E. O’Connor (verified owner) –
A solid item with professional performance that does the job well, and excellent value for money.
Ms Fiona Davies-Lawrence (verified owner) –

Mr Adrian Chapman (verified owner) –
Very straightforward, solid value for money and very easy to test the water quality.
Ms A. Gibson –
Good quality and good performance. My family has been using these for some time now and they work well, and the shop is reliable too.
Miss Amit Hall-Scott (verified owner) –
I used these for hard water testing. I tried one at a house where I knew the softener was working and the test responded correctly, then I used a strip at home and it showed very hard water, so it works. Very pleased with the purchase.
Rohan C. Jones-Gray (verified owner) –

Great. I picked up a similar product elsewhere and the difference in the testing results was obvious, as the other one was clearly inferior. These are definitely the way to go.
V. H. Wilson (verified owner) –
These strips do exactly what they say on the packet. Simple to use and the result comes up without the slightest delay and clearly.
Ms Ravi Murphy (verified owner) –
A good item, although slightly clearer instructions would help. It works fine and there is a sudden colour change, but as a first time user it would have been helpful if the instructions had said that the change was from pink to blue. The first couple of drops took it from clear to pink, which is also a colour change but not the one I was looking for.

This is fantastic and I was well pleased with the quick delivery.
R. B. MacLeod –
Thumbs up from me, the strips are easy to use and give a clear result in no time.

Carter Mitchell (verified owner) –
It seems easy, almost too easy to be real, but it does give you a quick reading without any fuss.
Miss Amelia Z. Khan (verified owner) –
Good the wrapping, nothing broken and no damage at all. I tested for phosphate straight away, because I thought that might be the reason for the algae bloom, but the reading came back at zero, so it must be something else.

Everything I have bought from this range has been good, and the strips are no exception.
Mr Rowan Uddin –
I would certainly recommend this starter pack, especially if you are just setting up. The pack arrived the day after the main order and it has everything you need to keep things going. We have been using ours for a month and there is still plenty of product left.
