Description
Even at harmful levels, lead cannot be seen, smelled or tasted, so water assumed to be safe can still contain it. Aside from the original supply, lead can find its way into household water via water meters, supply lines, soldering points and sink or bath fixtures. This Deep Blue lead test kit shows whether your water sits below or above the EPA guideline level, so you know where you stand.
It is especially useful in older properties, where original pipework and solder are usually to blame, and on private supplies that fall outside a utility company’s testing regime. Landlords and holiday let operators also find it a quick due-diligence check.
Deep Blue water testing products are manufactured to a high standard and colour matched for accurate, repeatable results, and the test strip range is trusted by pool professionals, holiday let operators and serious home users the length and breadth of the UK.
Follow up any result that gives cause for concern with your water supplier or an accredited laboratory, and in the meantime consider a filter certified for lead removal.
How to Use
- Add 5ml of the water sample into the colorimetric tube.
- Place the test strip in the tube, close the cover tightly and turn it upside down twice.
- Leave for 2 minutes.
- Remove the strip, rest the bottom of the tube on the blank area of the colour chart, look down through the tube and check the colour against the chart, reading the result within 10 seconds.

Ms Jordan Howard-Mason (verified owner) –
Great quality. The tube that holds these strips is pretty airtight. I compared them against my digital meter and they were accurate. The colours are easy to read and I am glad I tried these after using some lesser quality strips from a different make. Will order again.
Dr Callum Sharma (verified owner) –

A nice test kit and one of the quickest out there to use. Just to comment on the previous rating, the results are meant to be read between 5 and 30 a few seconds according to the instructions. Always calibrate any test kit with a known sample in solution to confirm its readings. That even applies to really expensive high end kits.

It comes down to how hard you chase numbers, and in my opinion this one is better value.

These seem to be solid. They tell me my levels are fine and they are fast and simple to use.

Super quick delivery on a repeat order. It arrived in solid condition and I highly recommend this seller. Thank you.
Isaac Iyer (verified owner) –
I have used the strips for years by using the dilution method, and they give a reasonable ballpark estimate of the concentration, though not quite to my satisfaction. It would be very handy if there were strips that could read stronger concentrations directly without having to resort to diluting the sample first.

It is perfectly reliable for a speedy check and I have compared it against liquid tests. It does fall short on some of the other readings though. For anyone who just wants an easy check it is fine, but for more demanding measurements liquid tests are the only way.

For getting a ballpark figure it is very good value for money, and it is fast and easy to use.

I love these strips. Great value and really easy to use. I have tried another make which always seemed to give false readings.
Miss Ahmed A. James –
They are great for getting some quick and easy results, and I usually follow up any irregularities from the strip test with a liquid test. These seem quite accurate and the results usually agree with the liquid tests, apart from one of the readings, which without fail seems to come out a little higher. They are so easy to use, just swirl the strip a couple of times and then read the results. Great for a quick weekly check.

Evie L. Brar (verified owner) –
A solid item that I always use, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Rhys W. Mitchell –
A solid kit, although I am still looking for one that is not too hard to read. My last one was clearly readable for zero phosphate and sort of clear for some phosphate. This one is yellow, or yellower, at the low end, and higher readings do turn green, which is better than the others that just go a darker shade of blue as the level increases.
Ms Stuart Wright –
An essential item for testing the bathing water. You cannot have too many test strips, just remember to reorder before you run out. Pleased I went with these.
Jordan A. Cox (verified owner) –
I think it is a little expensive for the number of strips you get, although they are easy enough to use. It does the job. It serves its purpose.
Ethan Scott (verified owner) –
this kit worked! Wouldve been better if i hadnt already covered myself and half the staircase in paint dust!! But got this kit once i realised it might contain lead…which it DID!queue panic and Queue expensive lead paint stripper ! Kit is easy to use, simple instructions, and i tested known old lead based figures and house wall flashing (look above windows or doors for that ragged bit of metal poking out ) to ensure it was reading correctly! Definitely recommend to anyone doing diy in a older house

Mrs Elizabeth Wright (verified owner) –
It certainly works. I checked it today on five different waters and it is superb. Would buy again.
Miss Rachel Harper –
This test is so simple and the results come through immediately. The problem I have is that my phosphates are really low, possibly zero, and when you are in the low range it is very difficult to read. I am debating whether to get another, as I am almost out, and whether to send a sample away for professional testing so I can tell if I have any phosphates at all and then judge the readings on this test better. I am also wondering about a more expensive electronic checker, but I know I would not like the fiddly powder reagents. I only have about two tests left, so time matters and I need to know whether to keep dosing. I should have sent one off sooner, because I do like this test a lot.

Using the kit I could see that the hardness was 400ppm before cleaning the softener and 60ppm afterwards, so I’m very pleased. I will also be able to use it now and then to watch the water getting harder and know when to recharge the softener.

I had a different brand for the first month or so and I feel this one is a little more reliable. It does exactly the job well and is quick to check.

Mrs Mia Anderson –
I’ve only used this test kit once, but it did what it said it would on the packet, so it seems to be a good item.
Dr Finn M. James-MacDonald –
A decent product, although slightly clearer instructions would help. It works fine and there is a sudden shade change, but as a first time user it would have been helpful if the instructions had said that the change was from pink to blue. The first couple of drops took it from clear to pink, which is also a colour change but not the one I was looking for.

Mrs Kevin Y. Kennedy –
Easy to use and I have purchased these before, they do the job well every time. Happy enough with it.
Mrs Simon James (verified owner) –
A quick and easy way to gauge a critical water quality condition. I love these test strips because they measure perhaps the most deadly element in the hobby in a simple way. My only criticism, and this is on me rather than on the strips or the shop, is that I find them harder to read off now than I did ten years ago. With my eyesight, the subtle differences on the colour chart sometimes give me trouble, usually when trying to tell a straight zero from something around the halfway mark. I am confident that if there was a serious ammonia problem, and anything above zero needs attention, the colour would tell me, as the green gets more intense. Plenty of light and a white backdrop help with reading the results as well.
Logan Y. Dhillon-Barnes –

Found these fast and so straightforward to use. Take out a strip, hold it in the water by the marked grip at the top, keep it in place for 60 moments, then remove it without shaking. Lay it flat next to the chart on the pack to line up the results and you are done.
Darren C. Crawford (verified owner) –
Works really well and give me peace of mind which makes the price tag work it. Very easy to use. I got rid of a few hand me down dishes due to them having lead and I feel my family is so much safer with this
Mairi W. Stewart-McCarthy –
Overall, the result you get will not be one hundred per cent, but at least you have something that comes close, and it is much cheaper than the other liquid kits out there. It does the job.
Dr Maisie Reed –
It does exactly what it says on the label, fast and with no fuss at all. Would buy again.
W. T. Russell (verified owner) –

Mrs Dylan Phillips –
Fairly very simple to use and accurate. It is similar to the other tests in the range, but I usually double up on the reagent and the test sample to get a more discernible result, especially when testing phosphates at the lower end of the scale. The only thing better and more reliable would be an electronic phosphate meter, but that costs a fair bit more.
J. Harrison –
It does exactly the job. I always do several tests at a time to verify the results, but overall it is decently easy to read off.
Miss Finlay Allen –
A durable, well made purchase that performs honestly well. It has done exactly the job I bought it for without any fuss.

This is a brilliant company to deal with, any questions are answered promptly, nothing is a problem and they are so helpful. Their products are really good.
Elizabeth Chandra (verified owner) –
It works, and this is the second tester of this type that I have purchased. I go by the readings for chlorine and pH, the water stays clean and the measurements come out correct. No complaints so far.
Mrs Sebastian Murray –
Great item that does the job, simple to use and the readings are easy to read.
Dr W. X. Stewart (verified owner) –

Easy to use and clear to understand, genuinely useful, and the colour change shows up without any delay.
Mrs Sienna Chowdhury –
The seller sent it out very quickly and it turned up in decent condition. It was also the lowest price I could find anywhere and came from a new batch with a longer shelf life. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
Noah Armstrong (verified owner) –
A really good test kit that is really simple to use, everything is clearly laid out and the result is simple to read.
Mr Victoria Campbell –
An honestly decent, genuine product, although the postage could be cheaper.
Mrs G. Ryan-Reddy –
Better safe than sorry. When you are stripping back sixty odd years of wall coverings in an old house and you find yourself looking at the original paint, it is probably a decent idea to check for lead before you go any further. I am very glad I did, and also very glad I checked the mid century bench seat I was planning to sand down and repaint. This little kit was simple to use on both horizontal and vertical surfaces and gave a clearly readable reading. I was not surprised that the wall paint contained lead given the age of the building, but I am very glad I checked the bench as well. It has saved me from sanding lead paint and for that reason I am very thankful I bought it.
Mohammed Hughes-Dhillon (verified owner) –
I made the purchase and the product turned up in solid time, well packaged and just as described.
George W. Richards-Holmes –
A solid product with professional level performance that copes with the most demanding jobs, and first rate value for the money.
Ian W. Khan-Edwards (verified owner) –
It all comes in a very nice plastic container that you can keep everything in, and it looks a lot better build quality than the last one I bought, which only lasted a couple of years before the colour faded. This one cost more, so I hope it lasts a decent deal longer.
Dr Emma K. Clarke –
Having soft water, I found it hard work getting the levels right on their own. This comes in a large container and a spoonful every few days keeps things exactly where they should be. It should last a long time, so it is an economical purchase, and it is handy having the test strips included as well. Very pleased with the purchase.
R. P. Kaur (verified owner) –
I’m very happy with this lead test kit. It arrived well packaged and was very easy to use thanks to the clear instructions. I tested several surfaces around my home, and the results appeared within seconds as advertised. It’s a great way to quickly check for potential lead hazards, especially if you have young children. The value for the price is excellent since the kit includes multiple test swabs. I would definitely purchase it again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and easy-to-use lead test kit.

Very well pleased, the kit performs professionally and the service was reliable. Excellent value for money.
Mr F. U. Lawrence (verified owner) –
Appears accurate and is definitely much better than swabs, although there was barely any liquid in my spray bottle and it ran out after only a dozen plates. For the price there should be more. Incredibly unlikely you would be able to get 400 uses out of this kit.
T. Y. O’Connor –
I love this kit. I have used other phosphate tests but never found one more precise than this. It is a lovely professional kit at an attractive price. Very pleased with the purchase.

Dr C. U. McCarthy (verified owner) –
Very decent, the strips are straightforward to use and the colours are easy to read, so reading the results takes no time at all.
Amir J. Macleod (verified owner) –
A great starter kit for a new owner. The chlorine takes a little messing about with to work out the quantity to water ratio, as we needed less than the packaging indicated, so there was some trial and error to get the level correct. After the initial dose it has been really easy to check the levels with these strips and then top up. Spot on.
Mr Jaspreet Kennedy (verified owner) –

Easy to use and I would happily recommend them, they give a clearly readable result with very little effort.
Liam V. Turner (verified owner) –
As the product was out of stock, after a phone call and with my agreement the shop sent me an alternative, which does not tell you whether the reading you have taken is correct or not, so you have to rely on your own experience. All the same, the test works all right for me.
Katherine Murray –
Very convenient and fast to use, and pairing it with a smartphone makes reading the result even easier. Well worth the money.
Sienna Uddin –
Lovely products. I have used them all year and would not order from anywhere else now, they are such solid quality and work really well.

E. Z. Fleming (verified owner) –
I was impressed with this kit. It’s simple to use, and the instructions are easy to follow. What I liked most was how fast the results showed up and how easy they were to read. It gave me confidence knowing the kit is designed for accurate results. A great option for anyone looking for a quick lead testing kit.
Mr Daisy Robertson-Sandhu (verified owner) –
This is a very straightforward lead test kit that is easy to spray, reacts quickly, and requires only a small amount of liquid per test.
The included UV light produces a very bright, easy-to-see fluorescence when lead is present. It is vivid enough that you do not even need to be in a dark room to clearly see the reaction (though low light or darkness is better).
Initial testing took a bit of trial and error. I first tried testing solder that had been rubbed onto cardboard, and then tried a lead battery terminal scraped onto wood, but neither showed a reaction. After looking into it online, I realized those methods either did not transfer sufficient lead or the lead was not in a form accessible for the chemical reaction. I then tried lightly scraping a known lead fishing sinker with a knife. The reaction was immediate—the scraped area on the sinker fluoresced a very bright green instantly. Anything that came into contact with it, including my rubber gloves, also produced a strong, vivid reaction. Seeing that clear response gives me high confidence that this kit can reliably detect lead across various materials.
A few things to keep in mind regarding value: the bottle provides enough solution for a huge number of tests, but it does have an expiration date. The solution may lose accuracy after six months, so it is best to test everything you want right away rather than letting it sit in a drawer. While the upfront cost is not cheap, the per-test cost is actually quite reasonable considering how many uses you get out of a single bottle.
I also really appreciate that the company provides contact info for photo interpretation and mentions free lab analysis. It is a bit unclear whether “free lab analysis” means you can physically mail in samples or if it just refers to a expert reviewing photos of your test results, but having that customer support is a great bonus.
Overall, this is a fantastic tool to have around the house for quick peace of mind on vintage items, painted goods, or imported toys.
Mr A. Hill –
I read about this before buying and it’s a new, reliable and easy testing method. I tried it on some pretty vintage plates I picked up second hand and two out of three tested positive for lead, so we will not be using them for food any more. The test is very easy indeed, you put one drop of the liquid on the surface you want to test and then shine the included UV light on it, and if it goes green there is lead.
Freya Palmer –
Fast the delivery and the packing was perfectly good. These are products I trust and I would order them again.

Quick and really easy to use, and it gives you a good rough idea of the state of the water.

Ms Chloe Y. Kennedy –
The build quality feels premium, a little goes a long way and overall it is more than worth the price.
Suresh D. Wilson (verified owner) –
I use these at least once a day. They are a really good fast reference for the levels I need to keep an eye on, and I could not keep my water safe without them.
Mr Layla H. Banerjee (verified owner) –
Lots of tests. I felt like a scientist using this laboratory quality kit. A typical home kit usually contains only one or two tests, whereas this bottle has no frills but a solid number of tests to share with all your neighbours. It looks like something straight out of a lab. They do expire, but there is plenty of time to test through winter and spring. We tested our bottled water, our tap water and our reverse osmosis filter.
Emma Q. Murray –
Thank you, these arrived without any delay and are really easy to use, I am really pleased with them.

Excellent products and really quick customer service, with no problems at all.
Kiran I. MacLeod (verified owner) –
Good to have for testing water from a RODI unit. I picked this up at my local shop as I needed something without any delay to test the fresh water coming out of my unit. For a shade chart test it works pretty well and was near enough spot on with my digital tester, which read 0.101 while this kit read between 0.07 and 0.1. My only complaint is that the 15 ml syringe cracked the first time I tried to draw water in, as the plunger seems bigger than the tube. Thankfully I had others on hand so it was not a big deal, but it is something they could look into.
Erin D. McCarthy (verified owner) –
All in all, works like it should. A little pricey, but I needed it and it has done exactly what I wanted. It does the job.

They are not super consistent, but they do the job for a quick check of whether I need to take any action. It does the job.
Isaac Jones (verified owner) –
The best I have used. I have tried quite a few traditional phosphate kits and this is by far the easiest to carry out and to make out. The larger water sample and the quantity of reagents both help. The long sample tubes and the box you place them in for more consistent lighting when reading the results are excellent.
Anthony S. Mitchell (verified owner) –
So pleased with these strips, the quality feels professional and the answers come up fast. Highly recommend them.
Joseph Hall –
Came within a couple of days and it’s straightforward enough to use, so on the whole it is worth the price.
