Description
Nitrite and nitrate together tell the story of the nitrogen cycle, and reading both is the quickest way to judge a pond or aquarium’s biological health. The nitrate pad detects 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50ppm, while the nitrite pad detects 0, 0.15, 0.3, 1.0, 1.5 and 3.0ppm, so both readings come from one Deep Blue strip in 30 seconds.
A raised nitrite reading is the classic sign of an immature or overloaded filter, while gradually rising nitrate points to a water change that is overdue. Beyond fishkeeping, the same strips also serve pool, spa, drinking water and industrial checks.

How to Use
- Take one test strip from the barrel.
- Dip the strip into the solution so both pads are covered, holding it there for 2 to 3 seconds.
- Remove the strip and shake off the excess liquid.
- After 30 seconds, check the test pads against the colour chart.

I know these kits are losing favour, but for me the tests are not too time consuming or difficult. The low end phosphate levels are tricky to make out unless you use natural light with few shadows. I would go with an electronic checker for sps, but for a mixed reef like mine this is perfectly acceptable. As a side note, if you keep sps I would still have this kit handy as a non electronic backup and for checking how well your gfo is working. Run two tests at the same time and compare the colour of the vials from the tank water and from the reactor water, and change the media if the reactor is showing the same phosphate level as the tank. It saves wear on your pricey electronic checker.

A quick and easy way to gauge a critical water the quality condition. I love these test strips because they measure perhaps the most deadly element in the hobby in a simple way. My only criticism, and this is on me rather than on the strips or the shop, is that I find them harder to read now than I did ten years ago. With my eyesight, the subtle differences on the colour chart sometimes give me trouble, usually when trying to tell a straight zero from something around the halfway mark. I am confident that if there was a serious ammonia problem, and anything above zero needs attention, the colour would tell me, as the green gets more intense. Plenty of light and a white backdrop help with reading the results as well.

My only complaint is that the 15 ml syringe cracked the first time I tried to draw water in, as the plunger seems bigger than the tube. Thankfully I had others on hand so it was not a big deal, but it is something they could look into.

But I can complain its a lot faster then pulling a kit out. I can easily dip and know if my level are going down quickly. The tests last a while and are cheaper then buying reagant refills for my testers. You should still be testing with other tests to get a better idea of the number but this is a huge time saver. and no mess or cleaning.

Found these fast and so easy to use. Take out a strip, hold it in the water by the marked grip at the top, keep it in place for 60 seconds, then remove it without shaking. Lay it flat next to the chart on the pack to line up the readings and you are done.

Elegant colour rendering and a scale in steps of 0.2, and I genuinely like being able to check the phosphate level two or three times a week so I can top it back up and keep the nitrates where I want them. The colours are far better than the other phosphate test I own. I tested both at the same time and the other one was less accurate, with a scale spread too widely in steps of 0.5 ppm. The set includes a little spoon for the powder, but remember to use the smaller end for scooping. The glass containers are the same quality as the other kit, but the caps are far better because there is no aluminium backed paper that peels apart, just a fairly firm foam insert that does not come apart in the stopper. I am not sure it shows in the photos, but with the naked eye the difference is obvious.
